Landon Rankin Obituary
Of Kell, IL died January 20, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Lanny followed in the footsteps of his father and four brothers as a bricklayer. He graduated from Olney Central College, but his real-life study was of the American Indian culture. He attended area rendezvous and re-enactments and promoted the lifestyle by learning the art of beading, hide tanning, woodworking and flint napping.
He loved the outdoors especially from the flap of his teepee or porch of their cabin. He was a gentle and kind man who loved God and others and showed it by the way he lived. Funeral services for 'Lanny' Rankin will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at the Rankin Funeral Home in Salem with Rev. Kenny Cripps officiating. Burial will follow at the Romine Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Rankin Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Donor's choice and will be received by the Rankin Funeral Home, entrusted with the families care. Lanny Rankin was born on September 22nd, 1957 in Salem to Norman and Lucille (Williamson) Rankin. He married Judith Maxedon on July 12th, 1980 in Murphysboro, IL and celebrated a blessed 37 years together.
Lanny fought the good fight with cancer and is survived by his loving wife Judith Rankin; twin boys: Brent Rankin of Centralia and Brad Rankin of Mt. Vernon; Twin grandsons: Carter and Noah Rankin of Centralia; two brothers: Charlie Rankin of Ullin and Gailen (Jake) Rankin of Salem; three sisters: Fern Custer and husband Ralph of Iuka, Joyce Heyduck of Centralia and Nida Woodfall and husband Bill of Mt. Vernon; sisters-in-law: Faye Rankin of Kell and Becky Rankin of O'Karche, Oklahoma; his loving Maxedon in-laws: Freda Maxedon; mother-in-law of Salem and brother and sisters in law: Glenn and Tracy Maxedon of Mt. Vernon, Ted and Sharon Maxedon of Mt. Vernon, Dale Maxedon of Murphysboro, Joyce and Cecil McWhorter of Salem; and Jeannie Shehorn of Xenia; his life long and faithful friend: Mark Bryant and wife Dawn of Salem; as well as many loving nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Edward and Dallas Rankin.
