He was predeceased by: his parents, Jacob Engel and Katharina Carstens Engel; his siblings, Marie, Dorothy, Margaret and Charles; and his son-in-law Rick Edwards.

He is survived by: his wife Marlene A. Shoemaker; and his daughters, Cynthia Edwards, Deborah Engel and Doreen Roeder (Ron). He is also survived by 6 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church in Secor.
