He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Hess and Marie Hess (Raymond); and his brother Dr. Mel Hess. He is survived by: his sister Michele Vinton (John) of Champaign; his sister-in-law Elizabeth Hess of Naperville; his nieces and nephews, William Hess, Isabelle Hess, Grace Hess, Monica Ritz (Stefan), Dean Vinton, Elena Vinton and Anna Vinton; and his great-nieces, Kylie Ritz, Ella Ritz, Rosie Ritz and Everlie Ritz.

Memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or to the donor's choice.
