He was predeceased by: his parents, Edna Whalum and Cleveland Whalum; his siblings, Corene Etter, Kay Lipsey, Lionel Whalum and Christopher Whalum; his son-in-law Shamond Powell Sr.; his brothers-in-law, Clarence Etter and Kenneth Lipsey; his nephews, Cleveland Etter and Artemis Whalum; and his niece Stephanie Etter.
He is survived by: his child Shannon Whalum-Powell of Inkster, MI; his grandchildren, Shamar Whalum, Shamond Powell Jr. and Shamya Powell; his siblings, Lawrence Whalum (Arlis) of Flossmoor, IL, Michael Whalum (Antina) of Las Vegas, NV, Jeanette Chambers of Tinley Park, IL, Janice Wilson of Victorville, CA, Yolanda Whalum, Collette Whalum of Kankakee and Veronica Griffin; and his aunt Ernestine Wilson of Chicago, IL. He is also survived by thirty-seven nieces, nephews, a host of great-nieces, nephews, cousins and long-time friends.
