He was predeceased by: his wife Iona C. Deal; his daughters, Irene Cole and Vernetta Love; his grandson Jessie Lilly; his parents, Will Deal and Rosie Deal; and his siblings, Henry Lee, Alonzo, Winston Deal, Lucille Bryant-Reeves, Queenola Lee Deal-Jones and Magnolia Deal-Stevens.
He is survived by: his son Melvin R. Deal Jr. of Illinois; his sister-in-law Kizzy Wade of Gary, IN; and his grandchildren, Melvin Shaw, Sidney Lilly of Illinois and Vickie Shaw. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, church family and friends.
