Clarence L. Wolke was called home to the Lord 17 October 2013, following a short illness. Clarence was born on 27 October 1926 in Chicago, IL, the son of Henry A and Lillian Wolke.
He was one of nine children, Harold, Fredrick, Henry, Walter, Alice, Margerite, and Sharon. Clarence served his country in the United States Army during WWII in Germany, receiving the Victory Medal. For more than 40 years, he was an engineer for the Illinois Central Railroad, engineering both commuter and freight trains. He often was seen on the rails between the South Suburbs and downtown Chicago.
In 1966, he adopted his only child Jill Ann (Diederich). On September 18, 1971 he married Adele Amy Haines in Harvey, IL. They lived in Justice, IL until 1986, and moved to Fountain of the Sun, where they were blessed with many loving friends. Married 42 years, Clarence and Adele loved golfing, traveling, and hosting friends.
Clarence could light up a room with his large smile, booming voice, and large than life presence. He was a warm and loving Grandpa (Papa Choo Choo) to grandsons Joshua, Kyle, and Ryan Diederich and great-grandaughter Lilie Diederich. Clarence is survived by his wife of 42 years, Adele, of Mesa, daughter Jill of Illinois, grandson's Josh, Kyle, and Ryan, and great grandblessing Lilie, all of Illinois.
He is also survived by his brother Hank, sister Sharon, and sisters-in-law Loretta, Mary Jane, and Pauline as well as his brother-in-law Woody. Left to carry on his great spirit are his many nieces and nephew and loving friends. Services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday October 23, 2013 at Velda Rose United Methodist Church, 5540 E Main St., Mesa, AZ.
