He was predeceased by: his mothers, Ruther Mercer and Alberta Mercer (Simon); his former wife Helen Brass-Randell; his wife Mary Mercer; his son Henry Mercer, Jr.; his grandchildren, Chandra Mercer and Edward Lamarr Mercer; and his sister Bertha Lee Mercer.
He is survived by: his children, Edward Mercer (Wilma), Annette Hendrix (late Mark), Flora Mercer, Sonja Hoyle and Angelique Johnson-Williams (David); his siblings, Margarett Baines, Alberta Green (Wilford), Ezell, Hosea (Sandra), Nobie (Regina), Roy and Paul Mercer; his aunts, Vergie April and Zola Hamilton; and his uncle Harvey Bennett (Henry). He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
