He was predeceased by: his mothers, Ruther Mercer and Alberta Mercer (Simon); his children, Ezell Mercer Jr. (James Mercer) and Jolene Mercer; and his siblings, Henry Mercer and Bertha Lee Mercer.

He is survived by: his friends, Alberta Brass-Jones and Janet Youngblood; his children, Tanya Mercer-Jackson (Curtis), Terrance Cook, Lovell Mercer (Palmyra) and Craig Green; his grandchildren, Shaquita Clayborn, Ashley Diallo (Ebrahim), Annette Cook, Monchell Bryant, Mikayla Mercer, Ezell Mercer III and Selyne Masters (Brice); and his siblings, Nobie Mercer (Regina), Hosea Mercer (Sandra), Roger Mercer, Paul Mercer, Alberta Green (Wilford) and Margarett Baines. He is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held on Saturday, February 15th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Delgado Funeral Chapel (400 Landau Ave, Joliet, IL 60432). A funeral service was held on Saturday, February 15th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the same location.
