He was predeceased by: his parents, William Henry and Thelma Faye Thurston (Brown) of Jerseyville; his spouse Clessie Turner; his sister Betty; his brother-in-law Louis Crotchett; his brother James Thurston; his sisters-in-law, Betty Thurston and Mary Jo Thurston; his parents-in-law, William and Pauline Turner; his siblings-in-law, Bonnie, Paul Hetzel, Rev. William Turner Jr. and Sherry Koupal; his son-in-law Robert Simpson; his cousin Mary Margaret Dunse; and his nephew Douglas Hetzel.
He is survived by: his brothers, Richard Thurston and John Thurston; his children, Jean Runkel (Carl), Jane Runkel, Jill Thurston and William T. Thurston II (Mary); his sister-in-law Kathleen Turner; his grandchildren, Roberta Connolly (Gary), Rebecca Kulp (Mike), Justin Simpson (Jamie), Renee Wyatt (Scott), Allison Runkel, Sunjhata Thurston, Davi Beasley (Tom), Kristen Brosch (Tom), Erin Thurston and Amanda Thurston; and his great grandchildren, Jacob Connolly, Callie Connolly, Zachary Frost, Quinton Frost, Keira Kulp, Logan Simpson (Alyssa), Benjamin Simpson, Madelynn Gilman, Hunter Wyatt, Mia Wyatt, Jace Franklin, Juniper Beasley, Audrey Brosch, Ava Brosch and Alex Brosch.
Memorials may be given to St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic School in Jerseyville, in care of the funeral home.
