He was predeceased by: his wife Kathleen Kaplan; and his brothers, Donald Kaplan and Walter Motter. He is survived by: his children, Colleen Michaelson, Gordon Michaelson (Isana), Seamus Kaplan (Lynn) and Sean Kaplan; his grandchildren, Kathleen, Maureen, Liam, Kirsten, Shane, Cara, Courtney, Chase, Alexandra, Ian and Kierstian; his great grandchild Noah; his brother John Kaplan (Joanie); and his sister-in-law Geraldine Motter. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in Jim's honor.
