He was predeceased by: his parents, John Schimmel and Helen Schimmel; his siblings, Joanie and Jerry; and his son Gregory.

He is survived by: his wife Susie Litrenta; his children, Daniel (Anne), Debbie, John (Barb) and Janice; his daughter-in-law Judy; and his grandchildren, Dan, Melissa, Christopher, Michael, Stephen, Elizabeth, Eric, Katy, Kristine, Ashley and John. He is also survived by his fifteen great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to AMVETS or the Alzheimer's Association.
