He was predeceased by: his parents, Leo Koertgen and Margaret Koertgen; and his sister Terri. He is survived by: his wife Karen; his children, Brian Koertgen (Heidi), Scott Koertgen (Erin) and Tracy Aney (Brad); his grandchildren, Daniel, Thomas, Sophia, Brayden, Peyton and Andrew; and his siblings, Margi Kahan (Howard) and Kris Kertgen. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or Journey Care Hospice Foundation.
