Paula D Spurrier Obituary
Obituary | Paula D Spurrier of Hoffman Estates, Illinois | Elegy Cremation and Memorial Services 3400 West Stonegate Blvd.
Paula Spurrier, 76, died peacefully at home in the loving presence of her family on September 6, 2023. She demonstrated remarkable strength and courage throughout her three years of cancer treatments.
Paula was born in St. Francis Hospital in Blue Island, Illinois, grew up in Chicago and lived in the suburbs of Chicago her whole life.
She worked most of her life as a legal secretary, attended court reporting school, and transcribed medical records from home on the weekends. Later she managed a large local furniture store, and even volunteered at the Lyric Opera. Her most significant role, however, was being a single-mother, raising her daughter on her own, which she accomplished with pride and love.
She enjoyed sketching portraits, composing music, and playing word games and crossword puzzles. Her true happiness, however, came from having her family over for Sunday dinners at her apartment once a month, where she prepared delicious pork roast with mashed potatoes, and enjoyed fun and sometimes silly board games. The last three years she lived with her family, where they enjoyed nightly dinners at the dining room table and engaged in lively conversations, which often stretched late into the evening.
Paula was preceded in death by her father, George Spurrier, her mother, Mary (Policastro) Spurrier and her brother-in-law, Peter Chapkin.
She is survived by her daughter Cara (Eric) Jester, her two grandchildren, Joey and Natalie Jester, her sister Donna Chapkin, and her nephew, nieces, and cousins.
Private services will be held in her memory.
