He was predeceased by: his son Mark Mueller; and his brothers, Peter Uhl and Werner Uhl. He is survived by: his wife Katharina Mueller; his children, Roland Mueller and Joann Smith (Steve); and his grandchildren, Carter Smith, Madison Smith, Kyler Mueller and Linus Mueller.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association and The Alzheimer's Association in Memory of Michael Frank Mueller. The family has chosen to send donations to Alzheimer's Association.
