He was predeceased by: his parents, Vivian Gillespie, Sr. and Walter Gillespie,; his wife Tronda; his siblings, Mike Gillespie, Patrick Gillespie and Barb Sylvester; and his brother-in-law Dan Stallings.
He is survived by: his son Walter J. "Joe" Gillespie III (Janet) of Highland, IL; his granddaughter Alayna Gillespie (Eddie Stanley) of New Orleans, LA; his siblings, Connie Stallings of Highland, IL and Tim Gillespie; and his sister-in-law Sue Gillespie of Antioch, IL. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, December 4th 2024 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Meridith Funeral Home (1223 Broadway, Highland, IL 62249). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, December 4th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
Memorial donations can be made to BJC Hospice or Siteman Cancer Center.
