He was predeceased by: his parents, Eugene Dowdy and Myrtle Dowdy; and his wife Lana Dowdy. He is survived by: his sons, Brandon Dowdy (Rhonda) and Mark Dowdy (Darlene); his brothers, Gene Dowdy, Phillip Dowdy and Bruce Dowdy; his grandson Chase Dowdy; his niece Kelly Van; and his nephew J. W. Mollett.

Memorials may be made to Highland Southern Baptist Church.
