He was predeceased by: his parents, John Wesley, Sr. and Creta Lorraine Yates (Choate); his wife Dolores Jean Gibbs; and his son Darrell Gene Yates. He is survived by: his sons, John W. III (Carla Yates), Roger W. (Cari Yates) and Greg (Melissa Yates); his grandchildren, Ryan Yates (Chelsy), Alexis Phillips (Zach), Brendan Yates, Wesley Yates, Jackson Yates, Sloane Yates, Lincoln Yates, Weston Phillips, Brandon Yates and Alahna Phillips; and his siblings, Nancy Herren of Louisville, KY, Bill (Connie Yates) and Donald (Joni Yates).
