He was predeceased by: his parents, Kenneth L. Thompson and Dorothy Thompson (Utley); and his siblings, Jeffery Thompson, Jane, Mary Ann and Barbara.

He is survived by: his wife Sharon Jones; his children, Daniel Thompson (Frances) of Kane, IL, Darrin Thompson of Canton, IL and Sara Bassett (Tony) of Havana, IL; and his siblings, Robert "Bob" Thompson of Florida, Thomas "Tommy" Thompson of Hannibal, IL and Christine Ward of Carthage, IL.. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren.
