She was predeceased by: her father Harvey Edward; and her brother Edward Carle. She is survived by: her mother Helen Christine Carle (Smock); her former spouse Jackie Lee Murphy; her spouse Minton Phelps Dings; her sons, Ronald Eric Murphy (Deanna) of Havana, Richard Matthew Murphy, Jeremy Dings of LaCross and Justin Dings (Angel) of Canton; her siblings, Joanne Shipman (J. D.) of Webster, Elaine Root of Colchester, Lou Ann Pence (Joe) of Carthage, Jerry Carle (Cathy) of Gresham and Donnie Carle (Candy) of Nauvoo; and her grandchildren, Trey Murphy and Tayler Pellhum (Kirk). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

Memorial donations may be made in Karen's name to Illinois Cancer Care or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
