He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Carol Gerhardt (Tatge); his parents, Paul Gerhardt and Lilli Birndorf Altenbacher; his children, Julie Valentino (Jim) and Mark Gerhardt (Jill); his grandchildren, Larissa (David Cripe), Nicholas Valentino, Grace, Ben, Audrey, Ella Gerhardt and German; his siblings, Marion Hinz (late Oscar) and Wilbur (Gale); his nieces and nephews, Kristie Johnson (late Ken), Valerie Karth (Karl), Jim Gerhardt (Gayle), Paul Gerhardt, Mickey Gerhardt and Sue Held (Rob); his cousin James "Pate" Philip (Nancy); and also, Ray, Alice Tatge, Judy Gray and Heather Niziolek (David).

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Northern Illinois Food Bank will be much appreciated to assist those affected by Covid-19.
