He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Challans and Gladys Challans (Shade); his siblings, Ralph Challans, Earl Challans and Trudy Norman-Basile; and his sister-in-law Mary Challans.

He is survived by: his wife Sheryl Challans of Hammond, IL; his children, Rhonda Giles (Kirby) of Decatur, IL, Ramona Michel (Mark) of McCormick, SC, Laurie Challans of Elgin, IL and William Challans, Jr. (Therese) of Villa Rica, GA; his siblings, Charles Challans of Homer Glen, IL and Aetna Challans of Washington; and his sisters-in-law, Millie Challans of Decatur, IL and Penny Challans of High Ridge, MO. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren.
