He was predeceased by: his father Arthur Carlson; his mother-in-law Shirley M. Wirkus; and his brother-in-law Brian Wirkus. He is survived by: his wife Sharon; his sons, Clint and Lucas; his mother Vivian Carlson; his father-in-law Melvin Wirkus; his siblings, Linnae Anderson (Bruce), Jane Szabo (James) and Rich Carlson (Kathy); his siblings-in-law, Janet Lebron (Robert), Barbara Wirkus, Stephanie Moser (Matt), Randy Wirkus (Sarah) and Bruce Wirkus; and his friend Star. He is also survived by twenty two nieces and nephews, and fourteen great nieces and nephews.

Any memorial donations can be made to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, a conservationist organization focused on the protection and enhancement of wildlife habitat in the western United States.
