He is survived by: his wife Maureen Schmidt of Groveland; his son Matt Schmidt (Emily) of Morton; and his brothers, Frank Schmidt (Vicki) of Fishing Creek and Steve Schmidt (Patricia) of Mapleton, Ill..

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Team Gleason, ALS Association Greater Chicago Chapter, or Blessed Sacrament Parish.
