He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Carlen and Mamie Carlen (Vaughn); his children, Richard and Patricia "Patty"; his grandson Dane Light; and his siblings, Robert, Floyd Carlen, Lela Wendling, Lena Wofford, Harriett Laymon, Shirley Poffenbarger, Jane Jones, Madonna Seitz and Dorothy Henderson.
He is survived by: his wife Catherine Ashby; his grandsons, Troy Huddlestun (Kim) and Adam Carlen (Candis); and his great grandchildren, Kaylee Huddlestun, Sydney Huddlestun, Gabrielle Carlen, Isabelle Carlen and Rylan Carlen.
