He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Spruell and Ruth Spruell; his brother Sam Spruell; and his son Jerry L. Spruell, Jr.. He is survived by: his sibling S. Army; his wife Glenna Spruell (Newman); his son Joshua (Danielle); his grandchildren, Colton Spruell (Cassie), Natasha Spruell, Zachary Spruell, Andrew Spruell, Madeline Spruell and Austin Spruell; his great grandchildren, Dexter, Kylee, Shane and Maison; and his siblings, James Spruell, Tom Spruell, David Spruell (Connie), William Spruell (Juanita), Leatha Harris (Jack), Mary Crackel (Keith) and Rosalie Spruell. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
