He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold B. Atchley and Wanda Rose Atchley (Camp); and his former wife Mary A. Atchley (Krauskopf). He is survived by: his children, Joseph Atchley (Kathy) of Alton, Jeffrey Atchley (Cristi) of Lindale, Jacob Atchley (Angelina) of Granite City and Amanda Atchley (Anthony Johnson) of Du Quoin, Illinois; his fiancée Betty DeRuntz of Granite City, Illinois; his grandchildren, Jeremy (Morgan), Eli, Axel, Mikalia, Ethan, Allison and Isaiah; his great grandchild Theodore "Teddy" Atchley; his siblings, Georgia Smith (Kenton), Daryl Atchley (Maria) and Duane Atchley (Tammy); and his nieces and nephews, Christine Williams (Joe) and Laurie DeRuntz (Patrick Cushna). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
