She was predeceased by: her mother Irmgard Schoene. She is survived by: her father Max Schoene; her husband Bert Steinhauff of Glen Carbon, IL; her sons, Eric Steinhauff (Karri) of Glen Carbon, IL and Kirk Steinhauff (Lynn) of San Diego, CA; and her grandchildren, Gillian and Max Steinhauff of Edwardsville, IL.

“I was so sorry to hear of Gabriele's passing -- a wonderful and kind person to me always since our connection in the 1980s. We first met in Germany, Erfenbach, where she and Bert invited me to join them for dinner Wednesday with their two young boys; not just one Wednesday, but every Wednesday for many months. Imagine that kindness? Those dinners the most delightful memory of those years not knowing we were building that treasure of a lifetime friendship. My condolences to all.”
