He was predeceased by: his parents, Theron Yates and Dorothy Yates (Law); and his brother Michael Yates. He is survived by: his wife Modell Murray; his daughters, Devona G. Yates of Edwardsville and Alana K. Yount (Denny) of Alton; his grandsons, Corey Silveus (Maria), Brandon Yates (Andrea) and Tommy Silveus (Kelsea); his great grandchildren, Isaiah Silveus, Colin Stone, Donovan Yates, Rhys Yates and Emmett Silveus; and his siblings, Johnny Yates (Betty) of Godfrey, Darrell Yates (Evelyn) of Bethalto, Lanny Yates (Alice) of Moro, Gary Yates of Bethalto, Sonjia Peacock (Don) of Godfrey, Julia and Pam Szwargulski (Larry) of Alton. He is also survived by his grandsons, nephew and friends.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River where he was a member.
