He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, James O'Brien and Mary O'Brien; his wife Gail Mottershaw (Miller); his sons, Stephen O'Brien (Ashley), Sean O'Brien (Julie) and Kevin O'Brien (Samantha Dunn); his stepchildren, Matthew Mottershaw (Sydney Goad) and Kathlena Mottershaw (Robert Jones); his grandchildren, Dylan O'Brien, Molly O'Brien, Abigail O'Brien, Parker Jones and Logan Jones; and his siblings, Marilyn O'Brien, Majorie Nicholson, Kathy Thompson, Dan O'Brien and Tim O'Brien. He was also cherished by many nieces and nephews, countless friends, and his favorite cat, Sister.
