He was predeceased by: his parents, John H. Bauer and Anna Alice Bauer (Niebrand); his former wife Sharon Bauer (Emanuel); and his brother Thomas A. Bauer. He is survived by: his wife Marsha Bauer (Reid) of Dorchester, IL; his daughters, Gail Bauer of Decatur, IL and Ann Marie Bauer Ross (Jay) of Gillespie, IL; his grandson Gary Thomas Bauer Ross; his siblings, John F. Bauer (Janice) of Bunker Hill, IL and Helen Day of Bunker Hill, IL; his sister-in-law Evelyn Bauer Bilyeu; and his pet Brutus. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
