He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Carl and Tella Nelson (McHenry); his wife Lois Firch; his son Thomas; and his siblings, Priscilla Liken, Joyce Rogers and John M. Nelson.

He is survived by: his son Greg Nelson (Barb) of Geneseo; his grandchildren, Jeff Nelson (Christine) of Moline and Kim Gehling (Nick) of Geneseo; and his great grandchildren, Lucas, Bobby, Derek Nelson, Jack and Max Gehling.

Memorials may be directed to Geneseo First Methodist Church.
