He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Gernant and Opal Gernant; and his siblings, Lucille, Phyllis and William.

He is survived by: his wife Tamara Sue Wagle; and his children, Deborah Hopkey (Rodger) of Atkinson, Richard Gernant (Rebecca) and Christine Clementz (Mark) of Geneseo. He is also survived by 12 grandkids.

Memorials may be directed to First Methodist Backpack Ministry and the Geneseo High School FFA Trap Shooting Team.
