He was predeceased by: his wife Virginia Carroll; and his siblings, Irving Hortenstine, Mark Hortenstine (Katherine), Bob Hortenstine (Arthusa), Hazel Bennett (Toby), Fern Hill (Raymond), Helen Reed (John), Alice Hyink (Chuck), Ruth Hale and Dan Hortenstine (Carolyn).
He is survived by: his children, Jeffrey Hortenstine (Dorothy), Sarah Beth Hortenstine-Kirk, Salisa Hortenstine Olmsted (Tom) and Henry Hortenstine (Jill); his grandchildren, Jennifer, Jammie, Julie, Jessica, Jason, Bethany, Baylee, Bostyn, Brennyn, Steffen, Cydney, Ciara, Claire and Mitchell; his great grandchildren, Alyssa, Jacob, Abby, Jackson, Carson, Caelyn, Jace, Elyse, Ava, Gracie, Harrison, Harlow, Presley, Stella, Madisyn, Dallas, Bennett and Isabella; his sister-in-law Ernestine Carter (Tom); his grandson Jeffrey Hortenstine; and his son-in-law Mike Kirk. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
