He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert L. "Lou" Fields and Kathryn Fields (Van Dell); and his brothers, Robert and Ronald. He is survived by: his wife Marilee J. Coziahr; his children, William "Bill" Fields, II and Kim Fields of Galesburg; his sisters, Melody Morgan of Denton and Cathy Wallberg; his grandchildren, Amber, Britney Fields, Chris Bruington (Jessica) and Eric Bruington; and his great grandchildren, Bryson Sexton, Addilynn Rosellas Stewart, Michael G. Stewart, Amai'Onna Dominique Washington, Brandon and Makenna Bruington.
Memorials may be made in William's name to the Covenant Church.
