He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond W. Charlson and Audrey M. Charlson (Cook); his stepchildren, Robin Watson and Jonathan Lawson; and his half-sister Kathy Anderson.

He is survived by: his wife Kathryn Lynn Watson of Galesburg; his children, Tim Charlson of Cleveland, Tennessee, Marie Charlson of Jacksonville, Leslie Lamont (Glenn) of Cleveland and Theresa Sims (Bill) of Orion, Illinois; his stepdaughter Stephanie Chevalier of Opheim, Illinois; his brother Alfred "Bill" Charlson of Seattle, Washington; and his half-siblings, Butch Cook of Orion, Pat Cooper (Jim) of Orion and Pam Schroeder of Orion. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
