It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James J. Wells of Galesburg, Illinois, who passed away on July 5, 2024, at the age of 77, leaving to mourn family and friends. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of James J. Wells to pay them a last tribute.

He was predeceased by : his parents, Frank Wells and Edna Wells (Kennedy); his wife Linda Myers Hoefle; his son Robert Nathan Wells; his stepson Fred "Butch" Hoefle; and his brothers, Jack Wells and Paul Wells.

He is survived by : his former life partner Mary Beasley (Garrett); his children, Michelle Hudgins (Dan Hudgins) and Gabriel Wells of Galesburg; his stepdaughter Lori Kelley of Blythewood; his grandchildren, Kayli Wells of Knoxville, Tavian James of Galesburg and Lily Hudgins of Macomb; his great grandchild Veronica Wells; and his siblings, Maryann Myler of Auburn and Michael Wells of Winder Georgia. He is also survived by nieces and a nephew.

A graveside service was held on Thursday, July 11th 2024 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at the Rock Island National Cemetery (1600 River Dr, Moline, IL 61265).

“Condolences to all family and friends of Jim. He was one of my brother's BFF. It looks as though all the members of "Sleepy Hollow" row are gathering for their reunion. That is an inside story that my brother told many times. It is in reference to a shared cruelty suffered at the hands of one seventh grade Nun. Prayers and best wishes to all.”
