She was predeceased by: her parents, Henry Berning and Helena Berning (Kaiser); her siblings, Rita Heim (Alfred), Marie Foecking (Arnie Busch) and Harry Berning; and her nephew James Berning.
She is survived by: her siblings-in-law, Joan Berning and Ritchie Foecking; and her close friends, Mary Wienen and Janice Radabaugh. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Galena Historical Society in memory of Elma.
