He was predeceased by: his wife Eleanor M. Sullivan; his daughter-in-law Paula Medema; and his siblings, Hilda Temple, Marian Ivey, Garrett Medema, Edward Medema, George Medema and John Medema.

He is survived by: his sons, Steven L. Medema of Bettendorf, IA and Jeffrey M. Medema of Streator, IL; his grandchildren, Ty Medema, Mark Medema (Shelsey), Zac Medema (Maggie), Arianna Medema, Nick Medema (Ashley) and Jacob Medema; and his sister Erma McDivitt of Tennessee. He is also survived by ten great grandchildren.
