He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer T. McGowan and Clara McGowan (Wilming); his daughter Susan McGowan; and his brothers, Mahlon and William McGowan.
He is survived by: his wife Jo Ann; his children, Theresa Williams (Paul) of Clinton, IA, Sandra Vawter (John Lehmkuhl) of Clinton, IA, James McGowan (Christine) of Goldsboro, NC, Mark McGowan of Clinton, IA, Glen McGowan of Indianapolis, IN and Paul McGowan of Greensboro, NC; his grandchildren, Erica Kinkaid (Matt), Nicholas Williams (Jennifer), Conner Williams, Justin Vawter (Angela), Joshua Vawter (Brianna Volesky), Jala Hayes (Justin), Courtney McGowan, Ryan McGowan, Jacob McGowan and Christian McGowan; and his brother Robert McGowan (Norma) of Schiller Park, IL.. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
