He was predeceased by: his parents, William Horstmeier and Wilhelmina Horstmeier (Lohmeier); his former wife Dorothy Alice Larson; his children, Sally and Karl; his stepdaughter Linda Werntz; and his stepgreat-grandson Liam Kortemeier.
He is survived by: his wife Caryl Horstmeier; his daughter Nancy Fehr-Cronin; his brother Lee Horstmeier (Jean); his stepsons, Gary Kortemeier (Donelle) and David Kortemeier (Kate); his grandchildren, Candice Ray, Amanda Noel Stubbe (Gregory), Lucas Kramer (Sarah) and Logan Kramer (Erin); his great grandchildren, Addison Stubbe, Liam Stubbe, Antonio Constantine, Lucia Constantine, Sofia Constantine, Emalyn Kramer, Ava Anne Kramer and Leo Kramer; his stepgrandchildren, Megan Kortemeier, Sarah Kortemeier-Marten (Keith), Jackie Brovold (Tim), Paul Kortemeier, Matt Kortemeier, Ryan Werntz (Kylie), Adam Werntz (Sarah Baier), Sophia Kortemeier, Conner Kortemeier and Lain Kortemeier; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Ethan Brovold, Hannah Brovold and Charlotte Werntz; and his sons-in-law, Ted Kramer and Don Werntz.
