It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Merlin L. Watson of Freeport, Illinois, born in Jewell, Kansas, who passed away on July 19, 2023, at the age of 90, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Watson and Gertie Watson (Creek); his son Jerry Watson; and his siblings, Bob Watson, Stanley Watson and Norma.

He is survived by: his wife Juanita Watson of Freeport, IL; his children, Doug Watson (Monica) of Rock Falls, IL, Mike Watson (Sherry) of Forreston, IL, Wendy Klaas (Chris) of Freeport and Kathy Gahm (Greg) of Lena; and his siblings, Larry Watson of Stantonville, TN and Mary Dawson of Knoxville, IL. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established in Mr. Watson's memory.
