He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Shanks and Dorothy Shanks; his wife Mary Shanks; and his sister Mabel Niehls. He is survived by: his children, Michael Shanks (Brenda) of Belleville, IL and Michelle Lynn Herrera (George) of Belleville, IL; his grandchildren, Megan Shanks, Jennifer Winterberg, Dakota Herrera, Austin Herrera and Dallas Herrera; and his great grandchildren, Mia Skoog and Eli Winterberg.
