It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Leon Helfrich of Freeburg, Illinois, born in Smithton, Illinois, who passed away on September 25, 2021, at the age of 87, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Adolph and Otilia; his siblings, Harry, Walter, Norman Helfrich (Mary), JoAnn Helfrich and Rose Marie Guetterman; his parents-in-law, Elmer and Gertrude Mudd; and his brothers-in-law, Clarence Stehl and Elmer Mudd, Jr..
He is survived by: his wife Carolyn J.; his children, Kevin G. Helfrich (Kristi) of New Athens, IL, LeAnn G. Edelen (Kevin) of Waterloo, IL and Todd J. Helfrich of Freeburg, IL; his grandchildren, Lauren Langrehr (Kyle), Kayla Lynch (Chris), Nick Edelen, Alex Edelen, Keith Helfrich and Karli Helfrich; his sister Mary Stehl of Smithton, IL; and his brother-in-law James H. Guetterman. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
Standard CDC guidelines will be followed, including masks and social distancing.
Memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, or to the Alzheimer's Association.
