He was predeceased by: his wife Joy; his sister Barbara Ann Helton; and his brother-in-law Gordon Lay. He is survived by: his parents, Roy A. and Emma Helton (Prichard); his children, Robert W. Helton (Barb) of Franklin Grove and Barb Evans (Jack) of Cosby, TN; his grandchildren, Kristin Helton (Drew Kaufman), Chaz Evans, Amber Helton, Cheyenne Evans, Steven McBride, April McBride, Amanda Long and Brittney Long; his great grandchildren, Leah Kaufman and Colton McBride; and his sister Doris Jean Lay.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
