He was predeceased by: his wife Catherine T. "Kay" Schafer; and his parents, Bernice Schafer and Carl Schafer. He is survived by: his children, John Schafer (Allison), Michael Schafer, Mary Beth Richardson (Randall) and Therese Schafer (Christopher Lewers); his grandchildren, Jennifer, Eric (Erica), Ryan, Matthew, Zachary, Jason, Caitlin, Kelly, Riley, Justin (Jessica) and Dylan; his great grandchild Cayden; his sister-in-law Ann Moody (Jack); and his nieces and nephews, Julie, Mary Pat, Kelly, Jacqueline and Kathleen.
