He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Bartels and Mildred Bartels (Meyer); his son Neil Bartels; and his sister Marilyn Johnson (Elias). He is survived by: his wife Karen Bartels (Arcaris); his son Douglas Bartels (Theresa); and his grandchildren, Allison and Connor.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Matteson would be appreciated.
