He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Ida Detrick (Melita); his sons, John Detrick, Jr. (Roberta) and Matthew Detrick (Charity); his sister Anna Mae "Mazie" Detrick; and his grandchildren, Mary Detrick and Anthony Detrick.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations to St. Jude's Childrens research hospital would be appreciated.
