He was predeceased by: his parents, Rodell Theodore and Gladys Hargis Hamilton (Bowen); and his parents-in-law, Wilson Stanford and Dorothy Stanford VanDyke. He is survived by: his wife Norma Hargis of Flora; his children, Rebecca Belcher (Keith) of McLeansboro, Randy Hargis (Lisa) of Flora and Scott Hargis (Donna) of Flora; and his grandchildren, Misty Dozier (Jeremy), Jenny Connaway (Tim), Shaun Belcher (Lindsay), Matthew Hargis (Mandy), Nathan Hargis (Jenna), Topper Eastin, Logan Hargis (Deonna), Travis Hargis (Kristina), Misty Gill (Mitch), Chris Smith and Kim Smerdel (C. J.). He is also survived by 28 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations are suggested to the Oil Belt Christian Service Camp or the Oblong Children's Christian Home, and these can be made through the funeral home.
