Michael D. Malcom Obituary
63, of Findlay, IL, passed away at 3:03 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2023 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Father Pawel Augustyniak as celebrant. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 31, 2023 and from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Wednesday both in the funeral home. Burial will be in Wright Cemetery near Findlay, IL with military rites by Clarence Bixler American Legion Post #409 and the U.S. Army. Memorials may be given to Cancer Care Specialists of Decatur or Saving Orphaned Animals Shelby County.
Mike was born on July 3, 1960 in Effingham, IL, the son of Richard William and Alice (Koester) Malcom. He graduated from St. Teresa High School in Decatur, IL. Mike served in the U.S. Army from 1985-2001 including Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He married Brenda Kay Rickey on June 29, 1985. Mike worked for ADM as an over the road truck driver. Mike was a member of the Clarence Bixler American Legion Post #409 in Findlay and Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur. He served on the Findlay Fire Protection District since 1983 and the Findlay Ambulance service for many years. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and playing softball.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda of Findlay, IL; dog, Mack Diesel of Findlay, IL; brothers, Todd Malcom (JoEllen) of Decatur, IL, Derek Malcom (Janice) of Decatur, IL; sisters, Laura Richey (Dave Bailey) of Springfield, IL, and Teresa Garrett (Kelly) of Decatur, IL; brother-in-law, Gary Park (Janon); sisters-in-law, Rhonda Fairbanks (Gary) and Shannon Summers (Daren); special family friend, Gina Arthur of Findlay, IL; 14 nieces and nephews; 31 great nieces and nephews; and three great great nieces and nephews with one more on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents Robert and Iliff (Felkamp) Malcom and Alfred and Catherine (Keck) Koester; in-laws, Ronald and Madonna (Riley) Rickey; aunts and uncles, Russell and Avis Sutton, John Slusser, Patricia Malcom, Gerald and Rita Brumleve, Freddie Goeckner, Raymond Koester, Bernard Koester and Leonard Koester; niece, Lutisha Kay Rickey.
