He was predeceased by: his parents, George Gauwitz and Katherine Louise Gauwitz (Hopple). He is survived by: his siblings, Rita Gauwitz of Pekin, Vicky Scovill (Phil) of Peoria, Amy Lawrence (Joe) of Peoria Heights, Nick Gauwitz of East Peoria, Sharon Gauwitz of Peoria and Doug Gauwitz of Farmington. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
